For the first time in its 108-year history, the U.S. Open was held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course) in La Jolla (June 9-16, 2008). Staged by the United States Golf Association, the U.S. Open is one of four major championships ("the majors") in golf. In a sudden-death playoff, Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate to win his 3rd Open title and his 14th major championship.
